Although navigating the uncertainties facing public education continues to be challenging, I remain optimistic about our opportunities at ASBO International.

In times of uncertainty, staying engaged is more critical than ever. As school business professionals, we are uniquely positioned to bring stability and leadership to our schools and communities. This year, we are making a concerted effort to get more members involved with ASBO International — making it an even more vibrant community dedicated to advancing the profession.

Engagement is not just an opportunity; it is a responsibility. Engaging with ASBO International through education, advocacy, and collaboration is the key to staying ahead during unpredictable times. By coming together, we can address the challenges before us and ensure the continued success of public education.

In times of uncertainty, staying engaged is more critical than ever. As school business professionals, we are uniquely positioned to bring stability and leadership to our schools and communities.

Here’s how to make the most of 2025:

  1. Write an Article. Contribute to the collective knowledge of the ASBO International community by writing an article for School Business Now. Whether it's about a new financial strategy, a successful facilities project, or an innovative solution to a common challenge, you can inspire and guide others by sharing your experiences.
  2. Attend the Annual Conference & Expo in Fort Worth, Texas. Join us in Fort Worth for the ASBO International Annual Conference & Expo, October 20–23. This cornerstone event offers unparalleled professional development opportunities, including sessions, workshops, and networking. It’s the perfect platform to reconnect with peers and gain insights to benefit your district.
  3. Attend the Legislative Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC. Make your voice heard on Capitol Hill at the Legislative Advocacy Conference July 8–10 and learn about the latest federal policy issues that will affect your district.
  4. Post a Message in the Global School Business Network. Sharing best practices and success stories strengthens our community. Regularly post messages in the Global School Business Network to highlight innovative strategies and foster collaboration. Together, we can make a greater impact.
  5. Join a Committee. Committees are integral to ASBO International’s initiatives, and your participation can drive considerable progress. By joining one of ASBO International’s committees, you directly contribute to advancing the profession.
  6. Obtain the SFO Certification. Professional certification is a powerful way to enhance your career. Set a goal to earn the SFO (Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations) credential, showcasing your commitment to excellence in school business management. Learn more here.
  7. Submit for the MBA or COE Award. Aspire to recognition by applying for the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) or the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE). These awards celebrate exceptional achievement in budgeting and financial reporting.
